New Zealand plans to relocate at-risk grass skinks to a new habitat for highway construction.
The New Zealand Transport Agency plans to relocate a population of at-risk Canterbury grass skinks, discovered during an ecological survey for the Woodend Bypass project.
Listed as declining by the Department of Conservation, these skinks will be moved to a new habitat near Kaiapoi lakes.
The relocation is in negotiation with the Waimakariri District Council, and the costs will be determined once a management plan is approved by the DOC.
