Alabama governor signs law providing up to eight weeks of paid parental leave for state workers.
Governor Kay Ivey signed Alabama's Paid Parental Leave Act into law, providing up to eight weeks of paid leave for female state employees and teachers for the birth, stillbirth, or miscarriage of a child, and two weeks for male employees.
Adoptive parents of children under three can also take eight weeks for one parent and two weeks for the other.
Employees must return to work for at least eight weeks after leave, with health exceptions.
The law takes effect July 1, 2025.
