Staff member for Senator Cory Booker arrested at Capitol for carrying an unlicensed pistol.

On April 1, 2025, Kevin A. Batts, a staff member for Senator Cory Booker, was arrested at the U.S. Capitol for carrying a pistol without a license. Despite being a retired law enforcement officer, Batts, escorted by Senator Booker, bypassed security and informed officers he was armed. The arrest occurred on the same day Booker held a marathon speech against President Trump's actions. Weapons are strictly prohibited on Capitol grounds, even for those with permits from other states.
