Former soldier Chris Rantall completes Half Ironman less than four years after near-fatal skydiving accident.
58-year-old Chris Rantall, a former soldier from Victoria, completed a Half Ironman in Geelong, Australia, less than four years after a skydiving accident left him with multiple severe injuries, including a dislocated and fractured hip.
Doctors initially predicted he might never walk again, but with rigorous rehabilitation and family support, Rantall finished the race in 6 hours and 25 minutes, beating his goal of a 7.5-hour finish.
He aims to participate in another 70.3 event in June.
