Driving test wait times in Britain hit a record 20 weeks, with plans to recruit more examiners.
Driving test waiting times in Britain hit a record high in February 2025, with an average wait of 20 weeks for a practical test, up from 14 weeks a year earlier.
The maximum wait is now 24 weeks, affecting 183 test centers, nearly double the number from last year.
To address the backlog, the Department for Transport plans to limit changes to test bookings to 10 working days before the test and recruit 450 new driving examiners.
The DVSA aims to reduce waiting times to seven weeks or less by the end of 2025, but only 14 centers currently meet this target.
