New study finds long-term antidepressant use linked to higher risk of sudden cardiac death.
Recent research presented at a European Heart Rhythm Association congress links antidepressant use to a higher risk of sudden cardiac death, especially with long-term use.
Among 4.3 million Danish residents aged 18-90, those who took antidepressants faced a 56% higher risk if exposed for one to five years, and a 2.2 times higher risk for six or more years, compared to those not using the medication.
The increased risk was most pronounced in younger adults and decreased with age.
