New ACT MP bill targets race-based university benefits, aligning with "need-not-race" policy.
Dr. Parmjeet Parmar, an ACT MP, has drafted a bill that would prevent universities from allocating resources or opportunities based on race, aligning with the government's "need-not-race" directive.
The bill aims to ensure fair access to university benefits and is also critiquing a compulsory Treaty and indigenous knowledge course at the University of Auckland, arguing it may disrespect students' time and investment.
If passed, universities would still be able to administer outside funding based on ethnicity.
