OED adds Filipino and Malay words like "gigil" and "alamak," expanding its global lexicon.
The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) has added "gigil," a Filipino term describing the irresistible urge to squeeze something cute, along with other "untranslatable" words like the Singaporean and Malaysian exclamation "alamak."
The OED, which has over 600,000 words, also included "videoke," a local karaoke version, and "salakot," a type of hat, from the Philippines.
These additions reflect the dictionary's effort to incorporate unique expressions from around the world.
