Aboriginal remains and a cultural necklace have been returned to Tasmania from Scottish universities.
After over 170 years, the remains of an Aboriginal man from Tasmania, killed in the 1830s, have been returned home from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland.
The skull, believed to be from the Big River tribe, was used for teaching purposes in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Additionally, a shell necklace from the University of Glasgow's Hunterian Museum, made in the 1880s, was repatriated.
This marks the first overseas return of a Tasmanian cultural item in 27 years.
The Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre thanked both universities for their cooperation and hopes for further repatriations.
