University of Toronto appoints Melanie Woodin as its first female president, set to lead on July 1.

The University of Toronto has appointed Melanie Woodin, a neuroscientist and current dean of arts and science, as its 17th president and first female president, starting July 1. Woodin, who succeeds Meric Gertler after over 11 years, has committed to addressing challenges in academic freedom and funding. She has led the faculty of arts and science since 2019 and conducts research on the brain.
