The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Reparations Commission has highlighted the ongoing impact of historical injustices linked to slavery and colonization, calling for reparations and an equitable future for Africans and people of African descent. UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged governments to acknowledge and address the systemic racism and economic exclusion that deny people of African descent equal opportunities. The UN marked the day with the Ark of Return monument, designed by Rodney Leon, and Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka proposed the "Heritage Voyage of Return" to address current injustices and honor the past.
