New study finds waist size more predictive of cancer risk than BMI, especially in men.
A new study from Lund University shows that for men, a larger waist circumference is a bigger risk factor for obesity-related cancers than BMI, increasing risk by 25% with an 11 cm increase. For women, both waist and BMI increases by about 12 cm and 3.7 kg/m2 respectively were linked to a 13% higher cancer risk. The study emphasizes that waist circumference is a more accurate measure of visceral fat, especially in men, which is linked to higher health risks like insulin resistance and inflammation.
