flag New Bigg's orca calf spotted in Salish Sea, marking a rare birth in the marine-mammal-eating pod.

A new Bigg's orca calf has been spotted in the Salish Sea, seen near Port Townsend on March 20. The young whale, designated T046B3A, is about a week or two old and is the first known calf of 14-year-old Sedna. This sighting coincides with the death of Ralph Munro, who played a role in releasing six whales captured by SeaWorld in 1976. The Bigg's orca population, which feeds on marine mammals, has steadily increased, with over 140 calves born in the last decade, now totaling nearly 400 individuals.
