Maharashtra cancels 6% tax on expensive electric vehicles to boost clean energy adoption.

Maharashtra's Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, announced the cancellation of a proposed 6% tax on electric vehicles priced over Rs 30 lakh, citing concerns over promoting clean mobility and limited demand for such vehicles. This decision aims to support the growth of the EV market, which currently makes up 2.5% of car sales in India. The government also increased taxes on CNG and LPG vehicles and raised the Motor Vehicles Tax limit to Rs 30 lakh.
