James C. Schmidt, UW-Eau Claire's chancellor, appointed as new president of James Madison University.

James C. Schmidt, the current chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, has been appointed as the next president of James Madison University (JMU) starting July 1, 2025. Schmidt, with over 30 years of experience in higher education, is known for his successful fundraising efforts, including securing a $70 million gift for an indoor athletics facility at UW-Eau Claire. Michael Carney will serve as the interim chancellor at UW-Eau Claire following Schmidt's departure.
