Former All-Ireland hurler Niall Gilligan to face trial for alleged assault on a 12-year-old boy.

Former All-Ireland winning hurler Niall Gilligan will face an assault trial in July for allegedly causing harm to a 12-year-old boy. A pre-trial "ground rules" hearing is set for April due to the age of the complainant. Two juvenile witnesses, including the complainant, will give evidence via video link. Gilligan, who denies the charge, was a key player in Clare's 1997 All-Ireland victory.
