Whakaari/White Island, a New Zealand volcano, has shown increased activity, ejecting "ballistic blocks" up to 600 meters from its vent. The active vent's temperature rose to 360°C, though the volcanic alert level remains at 2. The explosion impacts are confined to the crater floor; the coast is safe. Steam and gas plumes with ash have been observed, and ash or sulfur odors may reach the Bay of Plenty coast during northerly winds.
