Two companies were fined €450,000 for safety violations after a worker was fatally struck by a container handler in Dublin.

Two companies, Scruttons (NI) Ltd and Kalmar Solutions AB, were fined €450,000 for health and safety violations after a Dublin Port worker, 55-year-old Nicholas Collier, was fatally struck by a container handler in August 2019. Restricted visibility prevented the driver from seeing Collier. The court found Scruttons guilty of failing to identify hazards and assess risks, while Kalmar Solutions was found guilty of not ensuring the machine was safe to operate.
