Study finds plant-based diets with limited processed foods improve chances of healthy aging.
A new study published in Nature Medicine indicates that following a plant-based diet with moderate amounts of healthy animal-based foods and low intake of ultra-processed foods can significantly improve the chances of healthy aging. Researchers analyzed the diets of over 105,000 people aged 39-69 over 30 years and found that adherence to various healthy dietary patterns, such as the Alternative Healthy Eating Index, was linked to better cognitive, physical, and mental health in later life. The study suggests that dietary guidelines may need to be adjusted to promote healthier aging.
