Salem appoints Steve Simon as new Fire & EMS Chief, replacing retiring Chief John Prillaman.

Salem has appointed Steve Simon as its new Fire & EMS Chief, succeeding retiring Chief John Prillaman. Simon, currently the Executive Director of the Western Virginia Emergency Medical Services Council, brings experience from his previous role as Fire Chief for Roanoke County from 2015 to 2021. He will take over the leadership of the Salem Fire & EMS Department on May 12, working alongside Deputy Chief Matt Rickman, who has been the interim chief since December.
