Oregon sends 26 firefighters to North Carolina to combat wildfires exceeding 6,000 acres.
Oregon has sent 26 firefighters and two representatives to North Carolina to help fight wildfires that have burned over 6,000 acres, including areas hit by Hurricane Helene. This mutual aid between states allows firefighters to assist each other during peak wildfire seasons, providing training and resource sharing. The assignment, part of a two-week rotation, can be extended if needed. This is the second time this year Oregon has sent aid, having previously supported California in January.
