Kerala's Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, is calling on the central government to regulate high airline fares for Haj pilgrims and expatriates. Despite a letter sent to the Union Minister of Civil Aviation and discussions in parliament, the central government maintains it does not interfere with airlines' commercial activities. In 1994, the government removed restrictions on airfare pricing, allowing airlines to set their own rates.
