The US Federal Aviation Administration has noted a rise in overheating incidents involving lithium batteries on flights, from one per week in 2018 to three every two weeks in 2024. To address this, airlines worldwide have tightened policies. Thai Airways, Air Busan, and Hong Kong's Civil Aviation Department have banned the use and charging of power banks in-flight, while South Korea requires passengers to keep them on their person. Airlines like Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines have also updated their guidelines to enhance safety.
