Study finds children from low-income families earn more as adults if they have cross-class friendships.
Research indicates that children from low-income families who grow up in areas with cross-class friendships tend to earn £5,100 more annually in adulthood.
The study, using anonymized Facebook data from about 20 million UK residents aged 25 to 64, found higher economic connectedness in South East England, particularly London, compared to northern England, South Wales, the Scottish central belt, and Northern Ireland.
The research, conducted by BIT and Meta, also suggests that such social mixing can enhance happiness and trust levels.
