India's central bank raises ATM fees, likely increasing costs for bank customers soon.
The Reserve Bank of India has approved an increase in ATM interchange fees, effective May 1.
The fees for financial transactions, like cash withdrawals, will rise by Rs 2, while non-financial transactions, such as balance checks, will see a Re 1 increase.
Although banks have not yet decided if they will pass these costs to customers, it is expected that customers will eventually face higher fees.
This decision follows requests from struggling white-label ATM operators.
