NSW EPA agrees to $18M cleanup for homes near Port Kembla Copper site contaminated with heavy metals.
The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has agreed to a $18 million cleanup deal with Port Kembla Copper to address heavy metal contamination in around 300 homes near the former smelter site.
The funds come from the site's sale and will cover the removal of lead, cadmium, and arsenic over three years.
Despite the contamination, the EPA says the current risk to residents is low.
The site is now owned by a Sydney property developer, who will continue the cleanup.
