Nigerian woman charged with scamming nearly $15,000 via romance scam; trial set for April.

Catherine Ugwu has been charged in Nigeria's Borno State High Court for allegedly scamming N6.8 million through a romance scam. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accuses Ugwu of impersonating a fiancée and using the money for her own purposes. She pleaded not guilty to charges including false pretense and criminal misappropriation, with her trial set for April 8, 2025.
