The Highland Council in Scotland has approved plans for the West of Orkney Wind Farm, a 125-turbine offshore project aiming to produce up to two gigawatts of clean energy by 2030, enough to power about two million homes.
The wind farm, located off the north Caithness coast, will have its final approval decided by the Scottish government.
If approved, construction could start in 2028, with operations beginning in 2031.
