Dublin teacher appeals ruling against social media posts deemed hateful under Irish law.
A Dublin teacher, Gearoid Johnson, is appealing a ruling that his 12 social media posts about Islam, homosexuality, and transgender issues breached Ireland’s Prohibitions of Incitement to Hatred Act 1989.
The Teaching Council’s committee found ten of the posts constituted offensive conduct.
Johnson denies wrongdoing, claims he was dismissed due to complaints about his posts, and has not been charged criminally.
The case is set for the Court of Appeal.
