Charleston County law enforcement re-enters program to enforce federal immigration laws.
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division have re-joined a federal program that allows local officers to help enforce immigration laws.
This 287(g) program lets deputies execute immigration warrants and, in some cases, make arrests for immigration violations.
The county sheriff's office had previously left the program in 2021.
Six agencies in South Carolina now participate in the initiative.
