Karnataka passes bill to split Bengaluru into up to seven city corporations for better governance.
The Karnataka Assembly has passed the Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill, which aims to split the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) into up to seven city corporations to improve governance and services.
The bill also establishes a Greater Bengaluru Authority and sets 30-month terms for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar supports the bill, stating it will decentralize power and strengthen city services.
However, the opposition BJP opposes the bill, arguing it could lead to uneven growth and the division of other local bodies.
