Sault Ste. Marie police use cameras to resolve complaints, train officers in body cams.
The Sault Ste.
Marie Police Service in Canada has launched a pilot program using cameras in police cars and on officers.
The initiative has helped quickly resolve two public complaints about police behavior using video footage.
Over 90% of officers have been trained to use body-worn cameras, which activate when officers exit vehicles, unholster a Taser, or turn on emergency lights.
The cameras enter standby mode when not active.
The cruiser camera pilot began in September 2021, followed by the body-worn camera pilot in January.
