Chicago Public Schools alert: Cyberattack exposed personal info of over 700,000 students.
Chicago Public Schools (CPS) alerted families to a cyberattack that exposed personal information of over 700,000 current and former students.
The breach, caused by a ransomware attack on a CPS vendor's server, compromised names, birth dates, genders, and student IDs.
For about half the affected students, Medicaid ID numbers were also accessed.
CPS assured that no Social Security numbers, financial details, or health data were involved.
The district is working with law enforcement and recommends affected individuals request free credit reports and consider placing a fraud alert.
