India approves new semiconductor projects, advancing its tech industry and reducing chip imports.
India is advancing its semiconductor industry with the approval of new projects under the India Semiconductor Mission.
The mission, launched in 2021 with a budget of Rs 76,000 crore, has already approved five chip-making proposals, including one by Tata Group.
The government is now set to approve additional projects, like a joint venture between HCL Group and Foxconn, and others, using the remaining Rs 4,600-4,700 crore.
The mission aims to build a sustainable semiconductor ecosystem and reduce reliance on imported chips.
