Income inequality in Australia has hit a 20-year high, with the Gini coefficient at 0.32, showing a substantial rise in income disparity.
The survey by the Melbourne Institute tracking 17,000 Australians since 2001 also found that single parents have the lowest median wealth and highest rates of poverty.
Additionally, women continue to do significantly more unpaid work and childcare than men, with 32.4% of women feeling they do "much more than their fair share."
Home damage due to weather-related disasters also increased, with 4.5% of respondents reporting such incidents in 2022, up from 1.3% in 2021.
