Maureen Bone, 12, won the Columbiana County Spelling Bee, advancing to the national competition in May.
Twelve-year-old Maureen Bone from Beaver Local won the Columbiana County Spelling Bee by correctly spelling "octonocular," securing her spot in the 100th Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., from May 27-29.
Bone, who previously placed second, will represent her county at the national level, where she will compete against other county champions.
The local bee featured 41 spellers, each a winner from their school district bee.
