India plans new railway linking Assam to Bhutan, promising first rail link for the kingdom.

The Northeast Frontier Railway has completed a project report for a new 69.04 km railway line connecting Kokrajhar in Assam, India, to Gelephu in Bhutan. Estimated to cost ₹3,500 crore, the railway will feature extensive infrastructure including 31 major bridges and two viaducts. This project aims to enhance trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges and will provide Bhutan with its first railway link. The report is awaiting government approval.
