Canada invests $80 million to upgrade its largest supercomputer, boosting AI and research capabilities.

Canada is upgrading its largest supercomputer, Cedar, to Fir, with an $80 million investment aimed at boosting AI and research capabilities. Located at Simon Fraser University, the upgrade will enhance collaboration between businesses and academics, enabling more than 6,000 researchers to remotely conduct work. The project, funded by the federal, provincial governments, and partners, is set to be completed by April, improving Canada's technological sovereignty and reducing reliance on U.S. tech firms.
