Australian PM proposes a two-year beer tax freeze to cut costs for drinkers and businesses.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has proposed a two-year freeze on beer excise taxes, starting in August, if his Labor party is re-elected. This move, aimed at reducing costs for beer drinkers, brewers, and hospitality sectors, could lower beer prices by up to 10 cents per pint. The excise tax on beer, which currently ranges from $10 to $43 per liter and increases twice a year with inflation, would be paused. The government also increased the refundable amount for alcohol producers from $350,000 to $400,000.
