flag Singapore's president grants stay of execution to man set to be hanged for heroin possession.

Singapore's President Tharman Shanmugaratnam granted a stay of execution to Hamzah Ibrahim, who was set to be hanged on February 26 for possessing heroin. The stay was issued after the Cabinet considered recent court developments, including a similar stay for another convicted drug trafficker. This does not pardon Ibrahim, who was sentenced to death in 2017 and had exhausted all legal appeals.
