Punjab mandates Punjabi as a mandatory school subject, overriding CBSE's exam policy.
The Punjab government has made Punjabi a mandatory subject in all schools across the state, irrespective of their board affiliation, due to concerns over its exclusion from the Central Board of Secondary Education's (CBSE) draft exam policy.
The CBSE has clarified that Punjabi will continue to be offered in the upcoming biannual board exams.
Despite this, the Punjab government insists on Punjabi's importance and has stated that education certificates without Punjabi as a main subject will be considered invalid.
