India's TRAI proposes lowering DTH fees, ending IPTV net worth requirements, to boost consumer choice and reduce costs.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recommended significant changes to streamline broadcasting regulations under the new Telecommunications Act, 2023.
Key proposals include reducing Direct-to-Home (DTH) service fees to 3% of adjusted gross revenue (AGR) and phasing them out by 2027.
TRAI also suggests eliminating the minimum net worth requirement for IPTV service providers, promoting interoperable set-top boxes, and extending the validity of HITS service authorization to 20 years.
These changes aim to reduce costs and enhance consumer choice in the broadcasting industry.
