The Oregon Zoo introduces a 2-week-old Asian elephant calf, Tula-Tu, to the public for the first time starting February 21. Tula-Tu and her mother, Rose-Tu, will be viewable in Forest Hall, part of the zoo's Elephant Lands. The zoo supports Asian elephant conservation with a $1 million endowment fund and collaborates on efforts in Borneo, including forest replanting and protected corridors. Experts believe Tula-Tu's debut could raise awareness for the endangered species, which faces threats from habitat loss, human conflict, and disease.
