Interfor fined $280,000 for illegal logging in protected old-growth forests in British Columbia.
The British Columbia Forest Appeals Commission has ruled that Interfor, a major forestry company, illegally logged in protected old-growth areas in the Arrow Lakes region from 2012 to 2016.
Interfor was found guilty of eight violations of the Forest and Range Practices Act, with the commission setting a fine of $280,000, reduced from an initial $360,000.
The decision was based on Interfor's failure to meet requirements for logging in old-growth areas as stipulated in the forest stewardship plan.
