Georgia advocates push for better mental health access as state ranks 48th; only half of those needing treatment receive it.
Mental health advocates in Georgia are pushing for better access to mental health services, with the state currently ranked 48th out of 50 for health care access.
Despite the 2022 Mental Health Parity Act, which requires insurance coverage for mental health on par with physical health, only half of the 1.4 million Georgians with mental health conditions received treatment last year, citing high costs.
State Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver, who co-authored the act, announced plans to enforce its provisions, and the Carter Center will launch a campaign to educate communities about their insurance rights.
