K-Electric seeks refunds for overcharged Karachi consumers, faces public hearing and opposition.
K-Electric, a power utility in Karachi, Pakistan, has asked Nepra, the national power regulator, to refund Rs4.95 per unit to consumers due to overcharging in December 2024.
Nepra is scheduled to hold a public hearing on February 26 to review the request, which also includes compensation for Rs5 billion in fuel costs from July to December 2024.
Previously, Nepra ordered refunds for November and October overcharges.
The request faces opposition from some regulators and the business community, who argue it does not adequately address consumer rights and lacks justification.
