Japanese court sentences Ryuji Kimura to 10 years for attempting to bomb ex-PM Kishida.
A Japanese court has sentenced Ryuji Kimura, 25, to 10 years in prison for attempting to murder Japan's former Prime Minister Fumio Kishida with a homemade pipe bomb during a campaign event in 2023.
Kimura was also convicted of four other crimes, including violations of explosives laws.
Although Kishida was unharmed, two others sustained minor injuries.
Kimura claimed he did not intend to kill Kishida but sought to protest Japan’s election age regulations.
The incident occurred a year after the assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
