ICAI opposes broader definition of "accountant" in new tax bill, favoring chartered accountants for tax audits.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) opposes efforts by Company Secretaries (CS) and Cost Accountants (CMA) to be included in the definition of "accountant" under the new Income Tax Bill 2025.
ICAI President, Charanjot Singh Nanda, insists that tax audits should only be conducted by chartered accountants due to their specialized expertise.
Nanda also plans to establish a committee to improve work-life balance for ICAI members and promote global expansion of Indian chartered accountant firms.
The inclusion debate will be discussed at the Coordination Committee under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
