Assam agrees to implement 38 recommendations from 1985 Accord, focusing on indigenous rights and Assamese language.
The Assam government and the All Assam Students Union (AASU) have agreed to implement 38 out of 52 recommendations from a committee on the 1985 Assam Accord, which aims to protect indigenous rights.
Key agreed changes include mandatory Assamese language instruction in schools and land purchase restrictions for non-natives.
The government plans further discussions in March and April to address the remaining 14 recommendations.
Additionally, the cabinet approved measures to boost the Bodo culture, including compulsory Assamese history education and the establishment of a private university and a national park in the Bodoland region.
