Utah legislator proposes redirecting funds from historic license plates to the state's general fund.

Utah's popular black and white license plates, introduced in 1922, have raised over $6.4 million for the Utah Historical Society since 2023. However, Republican Rep. Val Peterson introduced HB324, aiming to redirect some of these funds to the state's general fund, arguing for legislative rights. The bill would still allow a one-time payment of up to $3.5 million to the Historical Society.
